Coastal Scents - Pink Punk Princess Eyeshadow Tutorial

Hey guys! This is going to be my first post for a makeup tutorial focusing on eyeshadows. I have long debated whether to put up tutorials because there are already so many awesome tutorials out there so I feel  that maybe there isn't very much interest for another tutorial and one that's based on reading.

But I mean what the heck. Doesn't hurt to try and putting on eyeshadows is the funniest part of my makeup routine so I decided to share this with you. You may have noticed the different eyeshadow colors I use in my mascara reviews because I will try any eyeshadow color that will work for my eyes and the more pigmented and brighter the color, the more I want to get my hands on it.

You don't need these exact eyeshadows to create the look so the items listed below are only for reference.

- Coastal Scents 88 Original Palette
- Coastal Scents Metal Mania Palette
- Lancome Color Design 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Taupe Craze

Pink Punk Princess

I named this Pink Punk Princess because of the pretty bright pink eyeshadows being contrasted against a dark glittery brown. All of the above swatched shades except for the dark brown are from Coastal Scents 88 Original Eyeshadow Palette and their 88 Metallic Eyeshadow Palette. The brown is from Lancome Color Design 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Taupe Craze.

The colors I chose are a mix of matte and shimmery shades because matte/shimmer combos or an all matte eyeshadows ensemble are most flattering for me.

Creating the Look

Shu Uemura Glow On Blush P Peach 42
After eyeshadow primer, I used Shu Uemura's Glow On Blush P Peach 42 as on all-over lid eyeshadow base. This is a good color to use for facial highlighting as well. You can choose any prefered light colors as an eyeshadow base to help make the colors pop or even a creamy eyeshadow stick like NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk will do the trick.

Refer to this diagram if you don't know which part of the lid I'm referring to.

Metallic Pink - Metal Mania

[Left to Right] In the 88 Original Palette, I used a bright matte pink for all over my lid including the upper lashline. I applied 3-4 layers of the color and then applied a layer of metallic pink from Metal Mania Palette all over lid and upper lashline.

Then as a blend color, I used a light satin lavender purple from 88 Original Palette. I placed the color in the center of my lid from the lower lashline up to just below the crease.

A medium-sized flat eyeshadow brush was used to apply the colors above.

Then using a small dome-shaped eyeshadow brush, I outlined my outer v with Lancome's dark brown shadow. The brown swatches as a matte shade but once applied, the glitter in the eyeshadow becomes more apparent adding a shimmery effect. I then blended the remaining product on my brush into the space created by the outer v so it blends with the pinks and satin purple which I already have on my lid.

Because I don't have deep set eyes, I always make sure my upper lashline and part of the lid is lined with a dark eyeshadow so I lined this same brown from the corners of my eyes on the upper lashline all the way to the outer v and made sure to blend the color so it's doesn't look like a hard line.

Alternatively, you can use a pointed liner brush or a smudge brush for your outer v if you'd like. I've been experimenting with this soft small domed-shaped brush and find that it creates a softer looks as it works well to blend out shadow and doesn't pick up too much product making it easy to correct mistakes.

And if you don't have Lancome's Taupe Craze, you can use any dark brown/black shadows including the ones available on the 88 Original Palette.

I then used a fluffy crease brush to blend the upper part of my outer v into the crease area. Do this until you are happy with how blended the look is. If you want a more dramatic crease, add more brown to the outer v and repeat crease blend process.

I then used a blunt dome-shaped brush to line my lower lashline with the bright matte pink and dark brown. Dab some pink and start on the lower side of your outer v and bring the brush down and line your lower lashline. The key is make it so the brush doesn't leave your eye until you are done lining or for when you are adding more color to the brush. Repeat the same process with the brown. The reason to do this is to connect the colors on your lid to the lower lashline by filling in the very outer corner of your eye that otherwise wouldn't have any shadow on it.

I only lined my lower lashline to about halfway with the matte pink and a quater way with the dark brown to keep my eyes looking larger rather than more intense. You can always go for a more intense sexier look by lining your entire lashline with the pink and then the brown.

To complete the link, I used a black liquid eyeliner for my upper lashline and winged it out.

From afar you can't tell I used a brown. If anything, it looks more purple cause of the glitter in the shadow. The pink in this look is very intense but it's wearable during the day too. If you want do this as a nightime look, you can most certainly amp up the intensity with more brown or even black and then throw on a pair of false lashes to complete the transformation.

I hope you guys found this tutorial useful. Depending on its popularity, I could be writing more in the future. If there are certain colors that you want to see used as part of a look, leave a comment below!
