Tarte Cosmetic's Lights, Camera, Lashes and Primer Review

Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara is one of the mascaras that I was highly anticipating to use ever since I bought Sephora's Lash Stash set. This is easily my favorite and best mascara that I first tried a few years ago and I'm happy to say it is as good as I remembered it from then. What's different this time is I used Tarte's multiplEYE eyelash primer that is suppose to enhance lashes. How did it go? Results below!

Product Description from Website Reads:

A lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning mascara infused with olive esters to condition, treat, and protect lashes.

Product Performance: Our lights, camera, lashes!™ 4-in-1 mascara could be considered a push-up bra for your lashes—a 4-in-1 (lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning) plus it’s dermatologist- and clinically-proven to increase the appearance of lash volume.

Powered By: olive esters: conditions, treats and protects lashes

Formulated Without: Parabens, Mineral Oil, Phthalates, Sodium Lauryl, Synthetic Fragrance

What a plus! A paraben-free mascara and no mineral oil, or phthalates. I wore this mascara a few times. Twice was with primer and twice without before writing the review. Let's start with the times I used it without primer.

My lashes lengthened and volumized with this mascara pretty nicely. There was a bit of clumping, but it wasn't noticeable until the 6-7th layer that I was trying to pack on.

This is really nice volume on me and it's comparable to other mascaras with lenghtening forumulas.

Some clumping, but barely noticeable unless you're this close. The lashes are voluminous and long from the side.

Tarte's multilEYE eyelash primer also comes in a sample-sized tube. You apply the primer before applying the mascara. It's suppose to grab more mascara onto each lash that's coated with primer creating even more volume and length. The primer is fast drying. You could probably get 3-4 layers on before you need to start applying mascara. From my experience, I recommend applying evenly 2-3 coats of primer on one eye and then apply mascara then do the other eye in this order. The longer you wait, the drier the primer becomes and the more likely your lashes will clump when you're putting on mascara.

What's nice about Tarte's primer mascara combo is you'll never have the problem where the white primer is not completely covered up by the mascara. In fact, the mascara looks more intense with primer, but unfortunately, leads to more clumping.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes and Primer

Volumizing forumlas tend to not agree with my lashes and end up clumping them so I was very impressed when I first stumbled on this little tube. Of all the mascaras I've used so far, Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes! has one of the most compatible forumlas with my lashes and probably so far, the best mascara for giving both considerable volume and length.

With primer or without? I'll use the primer a few more times to see what else it'll do for me, but I'm going with no primer on a regular basis. The mascara alone does enough for me so I don't see the point of spending extra time on my lashes for a small boost which I'm trading in for more clumping. I could see the primer working really well for some people though so definitely try it before you make a final decision on the products.
