Korres Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara Review

Korres' Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara came with Sephora's Lash Stash set and is the first mascara I tried after my purchase. I've read lots of great things about it so let's see how it worked out. The product description taken from Sephora's website reads:

The blackest, black mascara derived from volcanic soil that increases lash volume by 600 percent.

This Obsidian black is formulated with volcanic minerals for the deepest, darkest color and an explosive increase in lash volume. These rich pigments blend with natural film formers to create a flexible yet strong coating that covers every lash. Volcanic Minerals Volumizing Mascara provides a glossy, luminous finish with a flexible conditioned feel, without any smudging or flakes for optimal, long-wearing benefits. The tapered brush head with unique cross-hatch bristles ensures smooth, clump-free application that grabs even the tiniest microlashes.

Korres produces natural products therefore naturally the mascara does not contain the following chemicals and it is also paraben-free.

- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan

The mascara is obsidian black (a.k.a very black) and is a little more water resistant than most other mascaras I've used. This also means that it's a long lasting mascara. No doubt about it. You will absolutely need some makeup remover to remove the product and it comes off very easily with it.

I have Asian lashes with regular volume that are on the longer side. The mascara did lengthen and give my lashes more volume, but I had to apply a dozen coats to get close to desirable results. There was little to no clumping except I feel like I'm trying too hard for making this product work on my lashes. I do however very much appreciate that they produce natural products so even if I may not use this as my primary mascara I will continue to use it.

The bristles on the mascara applicator are dense, but you can pick out each one when you are looking closely. The wand itself is inflexible.

There is some excess product on the tip of one of my lashes here, but you can see the rest of them are nicely defined which is great. It just lacks volume on me and that's unfortunate.

Retails for $20 USD
Where to Buy: Lash Stash set (miniature-sized), Korres' official website, major cosmetic stores online and locally.

  1. I have asian lashes too and find the bigger brushes are harder to use. They all tend to clump around somewhere. It's awesome that this mascara is free from harmful chemicals but I always find them to lack in some areas.

  2. Hi Lily! I really looked forward to trying all the mascaras from Lash Stash, alas not all of them were suitable for my lashes. If you're looking for a "healthy" mascara to try I recommend Tart's Lights Camera Lashes. I wrote up a review on it if you want some more info. After many years, it's still my favorite mascara. :)
